The Sound of Dead Elephants....

On news that Barack Obama, the most admired leader in the world, the president who restored our country to a posit on as the most admired nation in the world (after languishing at 7th or 8th for almost a decade) had received the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize........the RNC (the Republican National Committee...of AMERICA) had this to say:
"The real question Americans are asking is, 'What has President Obama actually accomplished?'" reads a statement from the Republican National Committee. " It is unfortunate that the president's star power has out shined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain -- President Obama won't be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action."

The Democrats Respond:

The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists -- the Taliban and Hamas this morning -- in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," wrote DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse. "Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize -- an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride -- unless of course you are the Republican Party. The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore - it's an embarrassing label to claim."

Embarrassing indeed.....

When The Simple Act of Telling the Truth....

In a country with a state, that recently held a survey, in which less than 25% of high school students could name the first president, how many respondents would have a clue about what should have been a long discredited tool from the rights's bottomless bag of fear?

How many could have correctly identified the term "blacklist", or described in any detail that horrible period after WWII when a hateful group within our own congress, calling itself ...of all things, the "House Un-American Activities Committee", routinely dragged innocent citizens to our own Capitol, ruined thousands of lives, and imprisoned its own citizenry for thought crime?

......but poor drunk McCarthy and his band of dupes were pikers ....without benefit of a massive, multi-national media conglomerate that devotes every hour of every day to promulgating the "The Big Lie": The President is surrounded by enemy advisers, our enemies have infiltrated all of our institutions.....or ...."The Big Dog Whistle: The President himself is our enemy..... bent on destroying us from within.

All couched within a thousand other lies: The "others" are taking over. The "different" are a threat to you. "They" are dragging "Your Country" ...to ruin..

A decrepit, despicable ideology: aimed at the primal fears of the ignorant and the weak minded.

......and how many of those Oklahoma students who could not even name the first president of our country, could then be expected to know of the exchange that finally signaled an end to our summer of madness? A simple question that the rest of the media and punditry of this country, and everyone else for that matter, should be shouting at the top of their lungs every day to the Australian robber baron and all of his faux journalist underlings:

Joseph Welsh to Senator McCarthy: "Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"

I don't even know what to say about this clip. That someone who has actually attended medical school, taken an oath to do no harm, presents themselves as a Christian, receives quality health care himself at the taxpayers expense....and supposedly represents the people of the state of Oklahoma...would have the unmitigated gall to tell this poor women that she should "go to her neighbors" because her husband is dieing from the broken insurance system and "government is not the answer".

Between this guy and Inhofe....forget Texas succession.....lets get rid of Oklahoma for electing these morons.

I should have put this up last week when I first saw it on Driftglass......but some things are just to scary to contemplate.....until it is too late.

You know even the owners of Degesch, Farbin, Messerschmidt or Junkers didn't have to bus in armed supporters to shout down the voices of reason at rallies back in those days....they sent their money and paid stooge organizers straight to the top....which I guess we would call K street these days.

No dog whistles here folks. The message is quite clear.

My guess would be that something like this...or worse happens somewhere in this country every day.....or the guy trying to get to the hospital to see his dieing mother in law...who just didn't show enough "respect" for the officer who stopped him. I guess we are all just in need of an "attitude adjustment"..when it comes to the thin blue line. What exactly does that line mark again?

It just took the ubiquitous presence of cell phones for these incidents to surface. I wonder how many people like this EMT were just brutalized and hauled off to jail before cell phones cameras came along. Millions.....?

In other news from the heart of pro-life / red state nirvana this week: An older white man foils a robbery attempt at a pharmacy by shooting the unarmed member of a pair of robbers (a 15 year old) in the head. Then, as seen on the shooters own security tape, he swaps out guns and empties the fresh one into the torso of the dieing youngster..you can probably guess what color he was.
