Did I miss something? Was there someone (other than Bushes dog) who seriously thought that things were going well for us in Iraq? Did all of these people just now notice this? Are we next going to need to come together on a consensus regarding ...fire being hot?
I guess now that we have dropped the expectation bar down to nothing (the senate confirmation committee having a collective orgasm when Gates admits the obvious) then the shit storm to come wont look so bad, no matter how much they manage to screw it up.
But in the mean time....Gates warned of regional "conflagration" if US leaves too soon and in case nobody believed that....
Deadeye Dick Cheney didn't waste his very quiet trip to Saudi Arabia and other moderate predominately Sunni nations eating dates under a palm tree. He convinced the Saudis (Sunni) to issue under the table statements saying they would come in to Iraq and crush the Shia if we left "too soon". (Come in with what...fleets of Lincoln Navigators....) and flood the market with oil to cripple Iran (oooh that sounds scary....cheap oil and falling gas prices prior to the 08 elections). They would or could do neither, but it sure props up the tired old threat that the region would spiral out of control if we left. An imaginary threat that the desperate war hawks will use to drag on this disaster for at least another year.
God please hold back the Saudi's, Jordanians and the Syrians ..or the Mideast will become a bloodbath...or an oilbath! What utter bullshit!
Does the MSM really have to bite on every ridiculous trial balloon these guys dream up?
